2009 Don Gurgiolo Sailfish Classic Re-cap
December 2009 marked the 10th anniversary of the Don Gurgiolo Sailfish Classic. 48 anglers fished on 24 boats successfully releasing 112 sailfish during the 2 day event. The weather was good, as we just escaped getting caught in the winter chill of 2009.
The grand champion winners released 13 sailfish onboard the Close Call with Capt Scot Stoky from Key Largo fishing anglers Randy Hamilton from Orange Beach, AL, George Clark Jr, Key Largo, mate Spencer Cannon, Key Largo and brothers Sean & Zane Albury of Key Largo.
First runner up releasing 11 sailfish fishing was onboard the Killer White with Capt. Aaron Brower out of Holiday Isle, Islamorada. Angler Linda Butler from Williamstown, NJ fished with team members Danny Brack and Brad Goodrich of Islamorada.
Second runner released 9 Sailfish fishing onboard the Esparanza with Capt. Rusty Albury of Islamorada. Angler Bob Rich from Buffalo, NY fished with team members Mike Kozma, Jay Sullivan and Craig Brewer all of Islamorada.
Fun was had by all as we celebrated at Marker 88 out by the bay.
